The Acura MDX is one of the most popular vehicles that Acura makes. It provides room for families with three rows of luxurious comfort. The MDX originally made a name for itself by being the first-ever unibody crossover SUV. The 2022 version was the fourth generation of the MDX and the new 2023 model continues the dynamic Acura styling so many people have come to admire. Under the hood is a muscular V6 engine that matches up well with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Engines and performance

The base-level engine in the new 2023 Acura MDX is a 3.5-liter V6 that generates 290 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque. The standard offering is a front-wheel drive system but families from Griffin and Milledgeville, GA might prefer the extra traction of available all-wheel drive. If you select the Type S trim, you'll get a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 that delivers 355 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque. When you run with front-wheel drive, the base engine can give you as much as 26 MPG on the highway.

New for 2023: A special air suspension system

With the MDX Type S trim, you'll get the first standard air suspension system ever developed by Acura, providing you with stiffer struts and adaptive dampers. You can select from a range of ride heights based on the drive mode you select. In the Sport and Sport+ modes, the ride drops by a tiny 0.6 of an inch but when you choose the Lift mode, you'll get two more inches of height. Experts have found this suspension is more comfortable than any other 2023 Acura MDX trim offers.

Interior room and cargo space

The 2023 Acura MDX gives families a generous amount of interior space for both people and cargo in a way that beats the competition in some key ways:

  • Legroom in the second row is 38.5 inches which is more than you'll find in the 2022 Audi Q7
  • Cargo space in back of the third row is 16.3 cubic feet which is quite a bit more than the 2022 Audi Q7
  • Cargo space behind the 3rd row is 39.1 cubic feet which exceeds the 35.7 cubic feet in the 2022 Audi Q7
  • When you fold down the second and third rows, cargo space in the Acura MDX is 71.4 cubic feet which is more generous than the 69.6 cubic feet in the 2022 Audi Q7

Interior technology

When you get behind the wheel of the new Acura MDX for 2023, you'll be welcomed by a pair of large 12.3-inch touch screen displays. Note that the first screen is a completely digital instrument cluster. The second screen measures the same 12.3 inches and serves as the infotainment control hub, managed with a trackpad in the center console. Smartphone connectivity comes standard and so does a Wi-Fi hotspot. You'll find a wireless charger in front and five USB ports in the first two rows.

Safety technology

The 2023 Acura MDX earned the highest overall safety rating of five stars from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and comes with standard safety features like these:

  • A lane departure system that will warn you if you drift out of your lane
  • A rear view camera that will help you back up more safely
  • A rear cross-traffic alert system that notifies you of a vehicle approaching you from behind
  • Blind-spot monitoring that will alert you if another car moves into a spot you can't easily see
